On Tuesday 22 June 2010, Historic Scotland hosted a one day conference in Perth and a tour of the Tummel Valley to mark the publication 'Power to the People' celebrating the creation of many internationally important buildings and infrastructure related to production of hydro power, demonstrating architectural as well as engineering achievement, spanning the last 100 years.

Power to the People underlines the contribution made by a most intriguing set of characters and provides a clear view of the hydro schemes which are so crucial in providing power to homes and business across Britain.

The utility is now at the forefront of national and international government initiatives for green energy and makes a key contribution to sustainable growth in Scotland.

As well as looking at the sector's history, this conference also discussed how to manage, preserve, record and celebrate its built heritage for the future. The conference was launched by Fiona Hyslop, Minister for Culture and External Affairs and was attended by approximately 80 delegates, coming from a multitude of professional disciplines and from as far away as Norway.
