Our historic environment is an irreplaceable resource.
Historic structures are a highly visible and accessible element of Scotland’s rich heritage. Covering a wide range of functions and periods, they chart the history of the nation.
Listed buildings can include structures from great country houses to modest croft houses, tenements to toll houses, and police boxes and primary schools.
They can date from the early medieval period up to around 1980. They need not necessarily be ‘buildings’ but could be bridges or statues.
Whether urban, rural, industrial, public or residential, they all contribute to their particular area and to Scotland as a whole.
