Afternoon Study Tour

The afternoon session of the conference will provide the opportunity to visit a number of pre- and post-1943 power stations in the Tummel Valley development.

The narrated tour will begin at Pitlochry where there will be a walkthrough the dam and an opportunity to view the turbine hall. The scheme will then be traced up the valley with stops at both of the stations developed privately in the 1930s and other stations forming the post 1943 development.

The tour will discuss the debates over scenic amenity surrounding the development of the scheme under NoSHEB and the changing emphasis in the architectural design in the period.

The tour will conclude with an opportunity to view the catchment from Rannoch Station and the return journey will include a video presentation of archive footage from the National Library of Scotland. A virtual version of the tour will be available online after the conference.
